Mayor David Gordon is a small business owner who truly understands the importance and impact of local government. Elected to the council in 2006, and re-elected in 2009, he is known for his candid and attentive style, devoting countless hours to addressing the issues before the Council. During his first year in office, the Burbank Leader named him “Newsmaker of the Year.”
Over the last two decades, Mayor Gordon has served on numerous boards and committees including the Magnolia Park Citizens Advisory Committee 1993-95, the Planning Board 1995-99, one year as chair, and the Administrative Services Committee of the League of California Cities 1996-99. He currently is serving on as the Council Appointee for the Police Commission and the Fiscal & Treasurer’s Review Group Sub-Commitee and is the Council liaison to the Burbank Association of Realtors.
He first arrived in Burbank in 1981 and soon established an optometry practice, which he still manages to this day. He had the distinct honor of being voted ‘Burbank’s Best Optometrist’ consecutively 2004-2010 by readers of the Burbank Leader.
A history buff, Mayor Gordon has studied foreign culture and traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. In 2004, he visited El Salvador where he worked diligently to improve professional eye care services in the country.
Mayor Gordon studied as an undergraduate at UCLA before heading to Northern California where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics and Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He and his family, live in the heart of Burbank.
