Long-Range Planning

“Long-Range Planning” (or Advance Planning) activities involve the development of policies and plans intended to guide the City’s growth and development in the future. Long-Range Planning responsibilities involve implementing and maintaining the General Plan (Burbank2035) plus the following activities:

  • Managing information about the City’s population and housing growth
  • Representing the City in regional planning activities
  • Prepare small area plans as required to ensure implementation of the community’s vision
  • Partner with Transportation Planning Division on the coordination of land use and transportation issues to ensure quality of life
  • Drafting new or revised standards to address changes in State planning laws, new types of land uses that are not already addressed by the Municipal Code, or problematic land uses and development conditions in the community
  • Implementing the City’s historic preservation program
  • Processing Mills Act applications for historical designation of property
  • Provide staff support and schedule meetings for the Heritage Commission
  • Professional and technical advisor to the Planning Board, Heritage Commission, and City Council on matters concerning the physical development of the City
