"Burbank Gateway"

Shopping Complex
101 E. Alameda Avenue
Adel Rakhshani
This work serves as a gateway element into Burbank. Seven tile and copper columns serve multiple purposes. The laser cut letters that spell "BURBANK" and face the intersection are illuminated at night. The back panels depict several historical references from the city's colorful past. A portrait of the elder Dr. David Burbank, City Founder, as well as images of the original Ralph's Grocery Store (Ralphs is a major tenant of the property) and the importance of the movie industry in Burbank are depicted in embossed and perforated copper panels.; Side panels depict shooting stars and planets.; All copper panels are protected with glass and painted frames

"Money Totem"

Burbank City Employees Federal Credit Union
1800 West Magnolia Blvd
Ron Pekar
Six rectangular framed ovals, depicting the images of past Presidents who are shown on American currency, float gracefully into the air. Supported by a central post, these images of Lincoln, Washington, Franklin and others are depicted in a high graphic motif evocative of the textured patterns of their faces seen on money. The combination of cut rusted steel with mesh provides a dynamic realism for the faces.

Conceptually, the sculpture's image symbolizes three elements: water at the base, land in the middle, and sky at the top. The form is a metaphor of a tree growing and rising from the ground.

This piece is a contemporary interpretation of a classical "column" form. The concept is to draw attention through the perforated bronze into the interior of the form, composed of glass cullet. The artist statement indicates that the work is composed to explore "the creative ways" to use recycled materials. The exterior steel mesh has a green patina.

"Pivot"
Metrolink Station
5 West Olive Street
At North Front Street
Paul Tzanetopoulos
Located within the plaza off the main parking lot for the station, the work features curvilinear and flat surfaces, depicting forms of transportation and movement. The use of color and texture provides a visual reference to Burbank's film industry. The work is conceived in a basic octagon pattern and includes a reference to the cardinal points of direction. These points are shown on mirrored panels embedded within the second level of the sculpture. The top of the work is crowned with a sphere dissected by a glass round disk that provides movement for the top of the work. The surrounding plaza is finished with colored concrete providing a framed circular pattern to the work.
