"Read, Reach, and Realize"

Buena Vista Library
300 N. Buena Vista St.
Wayne Healy
Located in the primary entry of the library, a youthful figure holds an open book towards the sky. The work creates a visual uplifting theme to the concept of reading as an activity of praise and accomplishment. The "book" is made of colored glass and is influenced by the stained glass designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. The sculptural element sits on top of a concrete base with scalloped edges that ground the base and provide a further articulated art deco motif. Surrounded by a low planting area and a seat wall, this high vertical work is the centerpiece of the plaza in front of the library.
