LEAD (Learn. Engage. Achieve. Dedicate) the Way is an internship program for high school students (juniors & seniors only) and colleges students who are interested in gaining work experience in a professional environment.
LEAD the Way offers participants the opportunity to participate in trainings and facilitations that will assist in building necessary skills to apply to various avenues of future employment.
The program includes weekly trainings on various topics such as:
- Customer service/Phone Etiquette
- Effective Communication
- Resume Writing
- And more!
These initial trainings will also include guest speakers, hands on training, and personal assignments with feedback from program coordinators.
For the majority of the program, participants will be placed at a Parks and Recreation office/center to put their skills and learning into practice. They will be working directly with Parks and Recreation staff to learn the resources and programs available through the department.
In their final week, participants will be able to submit an updated resume, review initial goals and objectives of the program, and receive feedback from staff and coordinators.
This program is voluntary and hours can be applied to service learning hours or towards internship experience. LEAD the Way requires the participant to commit to a minimum of 150 hours, additional hours can be accommodated if desired.
