PLANNED PUBLIC WORKS STREET PROJECTS

18-19 PROPOSED STREETS FOR THE ROAD REPAIR & ACCOUNTABILITY ACT (SB 1)

MOUNTAIN VIEW AND LINCOLN PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATION
This project will update the play equipment at both Mountain View and Abraham Lincoln Parks.  During this process, old playground equipment will be removed and new equipment that meets ADA compliance and standard safety regulations will be installed.  New features will vary at each park, but will include new shade structures, climbing features, slides, hop rocks, swings (including “generation swings” for toddlers and parents to share), and other features.

Construction at Mountain View Park began in February 2018, and is estimated to be complete by late May 2018.  Construction at Lincoln Park began in April 2018, and is anticipated to be completed by early June 2018.  For additional information, please contact the Public Works project manager, Nat Sotelo at (818) 238-3860 or nsotelo@burbankca.gov.

SIDEWALK REPAIR PROJECT - SECTIONS 3 & 18
In November 2017, Public Works began the Sidewalk Repair Project in south-central and north-central portions of Burbank (click here for map of area outlines).  This project will remove and reconstruct damaged curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, and pedestrian ramps in these areas. This project will also facilitate the removal and replacement of 35 trees on Magnolia Boulevard between the I-5 Freeway and Clybourn Avenue with remedial concrete repair.

The project is expected to be complete by May 2018. For more information, please contact the project manager, John Molinar at (818) 238-3800.

AT&T CONDUIT RELOCATION

AT&T is relocating a major conduit system in downtown Burbank along Orange Grove and Front Street to allow for Caltrans to reconstruct the Burbank Boulevard bridge crossing the I-5 Freeway. Conduit relocation work is now complete and the Final Phase is currently underway. Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to job site conditions, work hours may vary from the normal schedule.

Update/Final Phase:  AT&T has completed 81% of the cable installation. Upon completion of the cable system, AT&T will splice approximately 20 large fiber and copper cables in order to transfer the working services of all customers, residents, and businesses to the new cable system (approximately 20 thousand splices). Delays have occurred due to the lack of material availability by the demand of natural disasters. AT&T is working diligently and as quickly as possible to have crews complete the project, including street restoration, in time for the upcoming Burbank Boulevard bridge improvements (Fall 2018).  To maintain public safety, traffic control will remain intact in order for crews to safely access maintenance holes for splicing. For additional project information, please contact the Public Works project manager, Ricardo Sanchez at (818) 238-3954.

BRACE, VALLEY, AND VERDUGO PARK RESTROOMS PROJECT
In May 2017, Public Works began a project that will provide the community with clean, refurbished, and completely modernized restroom facilities at Brace Canyon Park, Valley Park, and Verdugo Park (Lower Assembly Building). Each restroom will be renovated to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and California Building Code (CBC) standards. The project scope for the restrooms includes the removal and replacement of amenities with low maintenance finishes, electrical upgrades, new LED fixtures, painting, and roof work. Portable restrooms and hand-washing stations will be provided during the construction phase that is estimated to be completed in May 2018. For additional information, please contact the Public Works Department at (818) 238-3860.

JOSLYN RESTROOM RENOVATION
This project will renovate four restrooms at the Joslyn adult center, which provides programs and essential services for many seniors in Burbank.  This project includes renovation of two restrooms in the center of the building and two restrooms located on the Olive Avenue side of the building. The restrooms will be renovated to comply with current California Building Code (CBC) standards and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. All finishes in the restrooms will be updated and renovations will include lighting, plumbing fixtures, and plumbing valves.

To help reduce disruption during construction, renovation will occur in two phases.  Each phase will include one women’s restroom and one men’s restroom.  Ingress and egress for each phase is planned to continue uninterrupted throughout each phase to protect staff and patrons, and to expedite work activities. Parking off of N. Griffith Park Drive on the east side of the street is designated "no parking" to accommodate construction.  This project is expected to be completed by late May 2018. For additional information, please contact the Public Works project manager, Nat Sotelo at (818) 238-3865.

SAN FERNANDO BOULEVARD/BURBANK BOULEVARD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT
This project will widen portions of the intersection to provide a second right turn lane from southbound San Fernando Boulevard to Burbank Boulevard. The modification will improve the traffic capacity of the intersection.  Pedestrian and bus stop improvements are also included in this project funded by Measure R. The construction phase is estimated to begin in May 2018 and be completed by August 2018. For additional information, please contact the Public Works project manager, Ricardo Sanchez at (818) 238-3915.

N. SAN FERNANDO BOULEVARD SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
In December 2017, Public Works began construction on N. San Fernando Boulevard to improve safety. The project will install sidewalk bulbouts at Amherst Drive, Andover Drive, East Avenue, and Scott Road, upgrade traffic signals at Scott/Amherst/San Fernando and Delaware/San Fernando, and install bicycle lanes between Grismer Avenue and Walnut Avenue. Various locations adjacent to these intersections will be temporarily closed for construction work.  The project is funded by a federal grant and is anticipated to be completed by June 2018.   For additional information, please contact the Public Works project manager, Vikki Davtian at (818) 238-3915.

I-5 WIDENING CONSTRUCTION (CALTRANS)
In May 2014, Caltrans began the multi-year I-5 widening/carpool lane/new interchanges project on the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Empire Avenue, Buena Vista Street, and Burbank Boulevard.  The next phase of construction will be the Empire Avenue underpass and temporary railroad tracks at Buena Vista Street.  For more information about this project, including closure dates, please contact Caltrans - http://i-5info.com/ or toll-free at (855) 454-6335.
