Dr. David Gordon Elected Mayor of Burbank

Bob Frutos named Vice Mayor

BURBANK, Calif. (May 1, 2014) – Dr. David Gordon was elected the new mayor of Burbank Thursday morning, May 1, 2014, during City Council’s annual reorganization meeting.

Mayor Gordon, who is serving as mayor for the first time, replaces Emily Gabel-Luddy who served as mayor for the past twelve months. Council also elected Bob Frutos to serve as vice mayor.

Mayor Gordon was elected to the Council in 2006, and re-elected in 2009 and 2013. He and his family live in Burbank, where he first arrived in the 1980’s and established an optometry practice, which he still manages to this day.

Mayor Gordon studied as an undergraduate at UCLA before heading to Northern California where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics and Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Vice Mayor Frutos, who has lived in Burbank for twenty years, begins his second year on City Council. He has worked in law enforcement for 26 years and has served on Burbank’s Police Commission, Charter Review Committee and as Vice-President of the Kids Community Dental Clinic.

Burbank mayor and vice mayor serve for one year and are chosen from among the five Burbank City Council Members who also include Council Member Gary Bric, Council Member Jess Talamantes, and Council Member Emily Gabel-Luddy.
