FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

I-5 in Burbank to be Reduced to Two Lanes on Eight Weekends Starting Nov. 1 for Pavement Construction

Crews Working Between Magnolia Blvd. and Verdugo Ave. in Burbank

BURBANK — Northbound Interstate 5 in Burbank will be reduced to two lanes on four weekends starting Nov. 1, and Southbound I-5 in Burbank will be reduced to two lanes on four weekends in early 2020 for pavement construction, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today.

Between Verdugo Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard, Northbound I-5 (the Golden State Freeway) will be reduced to two lanes from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4. The same schedule will be in effect at the same location on Northbound I-5 on the following two weekends, Nov. 8-11 and Nov. 15-18. Southbound lanes will not be closed on those dates.

The five additional weekend closures – including four on Southbound I-5 – will be scheduled on dates to be announced, excluding holiday weekends and inclement weather.

Travelers on I-5 are very strongly advised to avoid the anticipated significant traffic delays in Burbank. When lanes are reduced on Northbound I-5, travelers may take Westbound State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) to Northbound State Route 170 (Hollywood Freeway) and rejoin I-5 north of the construction. The opposite route is recommended during southbound closures.

Several I-5 on-ramps also will be closed in Burbank on these weekends. Local detours are provided. Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the construction area and use other routes.

The schedule is weather-permitting and all dates and times are subject to change. The contractor is Security Paving Co. Inc. of Westlake Village.

Updates, detour maps and more information about the project are available online at My5LA.com and on Twitter at @My5LA or, for those without a Twitter account, at https://twitter.com/My5LA.
