The City of Burbank requires sellers of tobacco products to obtain a Tobacco Retailers License. It is the intent of the ordinance to assist in the prevention of illegal tobacco sales to underage persons (under the age of 21 years old) in Burbank . The City of Burbank regulatory license is different from State of California Tobacco Retailers License issued by the Board of Equalization.
The license is to be renewed annually and is valid from July 1 through June 30. The license is not transferable if a business is taken over by a new owner. The City of Burbank Tobacco Retailers License is only issued to businesses in Burbank which have a fixed location and will not be issued to any mobile businesses such as catering trucks, food peddlers, or ice cream trucks.
Effective May 1, 2020, it will be illegal to sell any flavored tobacco product in Burbank, except for hookah tobacco. Compliance checks will be conducted beginning on May 1, 2020.
