Guide to Selecting a Contractor


The owner of a residential property may act as an owner-builder provided that the work is limited to [BMC 7-1a-105.3.4]:

  • A single-family dwelling of wood frame construction not more than two stories and a basement in height.
  • Multiple dwellings containing no more than four dwelling units of wood frame construction not more than two stories in height on any lot. 
  • Garages or other structures appurtenant to a single-family dwelling of wood frame construction not more than two stories and basement in height.
