On March 27, 2018, the Burbank Housing Authority Board approved updates to the Administrative Plan that the housing authority office utilizes to implement the federal Section 8 Program.  The housing authority board approved changes to the eligibility review process, and two additional, local preferences were adopted.

The first new preference is Severely Rent Burdened that means an applicant paying 50% or more of income on rent.  The second new preference is Substandard Housing that means applicants living in unpermitted structures as designated by a city official in the course and scope of their official duties such as a code enforcement officer or building inspector.  In addition, the preferences are now “weighted” meaning each preference is assigned a numerical advantage as noted below:

*Burbank Residents - Applicants that live and/or work in Burbank (25 points)

*Involuntarily displaced by the City of Burbank or Burbank Housing Authority (10 points)

*Burbank homeless households/individuals that have been working with qualified      Burbank service providers (5 points)

*Burbank Veteran households (2.5 points)

*Burbank Disabled households (2.5 points)

*NEW - Burbank Severely Rent Burdened households (5 points)

*NEW - Burbank households living in Substandard Housing (5 points)
