To enhance the quality of life of Burbank citizens age 55+, Senior and Human Services provides information and assistance services, nutritional programs, recreation programs and activities, volunteer opportunities, special events, and travel opportunities.  The Joslyn Adult Center and Tuttle Center provide a variety of activities and programs for adults age 55+.  Congregate meal services are also provided on weekdays at Joslyn, Tuttle, and McCambridge Recreation Center for adults age 60+.

The Joslyn Adult Center, located in Izay Park was dedicated in 1972.  The facility was named after Marcellus L. Joslyn whose foundation donated $75,000 toward the construction, as well as additional funds to be used for future capital projects. Tuttle Center, located in Foy Park was dedicated in 1981 and renamed after Donald M. Tuttle, recognizing him for his 40 years of community service.

During the month of May, the City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate Older Americans Month.  A major focus is to honor a maximum of three (3) outstanding volunteers for the Peter McGrath Older Americans Volunteer Service Award.  One will move on to represent Burbank at the Annual Older Americans Recognition Day in Los Angeles during the month of May (date to be announced).

This award has been renamed to honor the legacy of Mr. Peter McGrath.  Mr. Peter McGrath was a long time Burbank resident who was respected throughout the community and served on numerous Boards, Commissions, and Committees, as well as, was actively involved in a variety of service organizations.  He truly embodied the ideals of volunteer service.

When you submit a Nomination Application, please take the following into consideration: 
  • Each nominee must:
    • Be 60 years of age or older
    • Be a Burbank resident, and
    • Have volunteered a significant amount of time
  • The nominee does not have to be registered as a BVP Volunteer.
  • This is a once in a lifetime award.  Your submission will be checked to insure the nominee is eligible and has not won this honor in the past.
  • The deadline to submit the Nomination Application is Friday, March 13, 2020.
