- Become resource ambassadors;
- Develop and strengthen leadership skills;
- Participate in local government;
- Enhance community knowledge; and
- Network with other local leaders.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The City of Burbank offers residents opportunities to engage with their community. RISE Burbank provides a wide-offering for residents to enhance their leadership skills. Class sessions are designed to develop participants’ knowledge of the community, sharpen personal leadership skills and abilities, and overall enhance the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in Burbank. Participants will learn specific skills such as project planning and implementation, public speaking, how to connect with local government, and foster community. Participants are required to complete a volunteer/community-based group project that will make a positive contribution to the City and its neighborhoods.
RISE sessions are conducted every Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The sessions will be scheduled at various locations throughout Burbank to highlight and emphasize the subject matter for that week’s discussion. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony. A detailed schedule will be provided upon selection. Light dinner is provided at all sessions. Attendance is extremely important for the success of the program and is mandatory, not optional.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to improving their neighborhoods and willingness to participate in community service and civic activities; this includes serving as a neighborhood ambassador. Additionally, applicants will meet the following requirements:
- Complete and submit the application by the deadline;
- Live in the City of Burbank; and
- Attend all ten sessions in order to receive certificate of completion.
