The Los Angeles River Bridge Project consists of a 0.13-mile bicycle and pedestrian facility that will add a connection between the City of Burbank and the City of Los Angeles over the Los Angeles River. The Project will include approximately 340 feet of bike facilities on a portion of Bob Hope Drive, a new prefabricated bridge structure spanning the Los Angeles River, and a short Class I bike path connecting the bridge to Forest Lawn Drive. The facility will improve the connectivity between each city’s bicycle network and provide a direct connection between Burbank and the planned future extension of the Los Angeles River Bikeway. This project expected to open in 2026 and will be funded through capital grant funds provided by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro).

Los Angeles River Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge
Los Angeles River Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge

The Los Angeles River currently presents a nearly three-mile-long barrier to bicycle travel between the City of Burbank and the City of Los Angeles to the south. Currently, the only access points to cross the river are at Riverside Drive to the east and Barham Boulevard to the west. Located between these two-access points is the largest regional employment center in the area, the Burbank Media District with more than 31,000 employees. The Media District is home to Saint Joseph’s Hospital, four major studios (Disney, Warner Brothers, ABC, and NBC) as well as numerous other media related businesses.
The Los Angeles River Bridge Project is one of the implementation projects found in the City's Bicycle Master Plan. The project consists of the design and construction of a bicycle route on Bob Hope Drive from the intersection at Riverside Drive to its terminus at the Los Angeles River. From there a Class 1 bicycle and pedestrian bridge will be constructed across the Los Angeles River, along with a Class 1 bicycle facility that will complete the connection at Forest Lawn and Memorial Drive and provide access to the the bicycle lanes on that corridor and the planned extension of the Los Angeles River Bikeway. This project expected to open in 2026 and will be funded through capital grant funds provided by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro).
