Attempted Car Jacking Leads to Shootout

Burbank, CA (February 16, 2021) – A juvenile suspect and person of interest were detained following an attempted car-jacking/shooting incident.

On February 15, 2021, at about 6:30 P.M., Burbank Police Officers responded to the 2500 block of North Brighton Street in regards to multiple reports of shots fired in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they located a discarded firearm near a parked vehicle. Officers also contacted a distraught female at a nearby residence.

As officers investigated the incident, they learned the female victim had been approached by two suspects, one brandishing a firearm, as they ordered the victim out of her vehicle. A neighbor in the area observed the incident and intervened. An exchange of gunfire between a suspect and neighbor occurred. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle. Neither the victim nor the neighbor were harmed.

As officers conducted their investigation, they were notified of a shooting victim in the 200 block of East Cypress Avenue. Officers immediately responded and located a male juvenile and male adult. The adult appeared to suffer from a gunshot wound. The adult was transported to a local trauma center and is currently being treated for his injury. Officers also located and recovered a stolen vehicle which was determined to be related to the incident.

The juvenile was detained and booked for 215(a) PC- Carjacking and was transported to a juvenile detention facility. The adult, an 18-year-old from Sylmar is a person of interest in this investigation. This investigation is on-going.
