Burbank Fire Department Vaccinates More Than 2,500 City of Burbank Staff and Burbank Unified School District Employees

BURBANK, CA (April 15, 2021) – As a regional partner of the 2020/2021 LA County Vaccine Allocation, the City of Burbank Fire Department hosted vaccination clinics for the Police Department, Fire Department, and City of Burbank and Burbank Unified School District Employees. To date, the Fire Department, in partnership with the BUSD nursing staff, have administered more than 2,500 doses to nearly all personnel that requested to be vaccinated.

With oversight from the Burbank Fire Department’s Medical Director, Dr. Steve Rottman, M.D., Burbank Fire Department’s Nurse Educator, Britney Alton, R.N., developed the training curriculum  coordinating with the LA County Department of Health Services so that the Burbank paramedics and BUSD nurses may safely administer the vaccine.

“Facilitating these vaccination clinics for our City staff and BUSD teachers and employees is a great accomplishment, and the collaboration between these groups, BUSD nurses, and the Fire Corps volunteers has been outstanding,” said Fire Chief Eric Garcia. “Completing both rounds of the vaccine provides an added layer of protection for all our staff and Burbank teachers, making it safer for our children to go back to school and our City to go back to normalcy soon.”

“BUSD is fortunate to have worked with the Burbank Fire Department to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said BUSD Superintendent Matt Hill. “Receiving the vaccine is a monumental step for BUSD and plays a significant role in protecting our staff, students, and community at large.”

Additionally, by holding these clinics, other on-going vaccination programs were able to focus on other communities within Burbank and LA County.

Eligibility requirements for the COVID-19 vaccine continues to expand, making it easier for more to receive the vaccine. Residents can learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and make an appointment to get vaccinated by visiting the LA County Department of Public Health website.
