New Date of Burbank Blvd. Closure is March 28

Burbank, CA (March 13, 2020) - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that due to rain, there will be a two-week delay before the planned closure of Burbank Boulevard at the bridge over Interstate 5 (the Golden State Freeway) in Burbank.

The new schedule for the full closure of Burbank Boulevard is at 12:01 a.m. on March 28, 2020. Previously, the closure was scheduled to start on Saturday, March 14. The schedule is weather-permitting and is subject to change.

Caltrans plans to close Burbank Boulevard between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street for approximately 14 to 16 months for crews to demolish the I-5 Burbank Boulevard bridge and construct a new bridge, opening in 2021. This construction is part of the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV, or carpool) lanes project on I-5.

On April 25-27, I-5 is scheduled to be closed in both directions in Burbank, Glendale and the Sun Valley area of Los Angeles while crews demolish the Burbank Boulevard bridge. As of today, there is no change in the scheduled I-5 full closure on April 25-27.

Detours will be provided during the closure of Burbank Boulevard. Nine other freeway crossings, including five freeway interchanges, will remain open to serve Burbank. The northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound Burbank Boulevard will remain open except for limited 55-hour closures.
