Press Release: Burbank Councilmember Appointed to the American Public Powers Association’s Policy Makers Council

Burbank, CA (December 15, 2022) – Burbank Councilmember Nick Schultz has been selected to serve a three-year term on the American Public Powers Association’s (APPA) Policy Makers Council (PMC) by its Board of Directors.

The PMC assists APPA in promoting federal legislation that is important to public power utilities and opposing harmful legislation. The PMC is comprised of locally elected and appointed officials from public power communities across the country.

“I am truly honored to have been selected to serve on the APPA Policy Makers Council,” said Councilmember Schultz.  “APPA plays a critical role in the development of public power policy.  Moreover, the City of Burbank has adopted an ambitious Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, in which Burbank Water and Power will play a central role in modernizing our infrastructure and achieving carbon neutrality.” Councilmember Schultz added, “I look forward to working closely with our BWP team to advocate on capitol hill for the resources and policy changes we need to shape the future of public power in our community.”

The APPA is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. They represent public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million customers that public power utilities serve, and the 93,000 people they employ.  The Association advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.
