Single Vehicle Collision Results in a Fatality

Burbank, California – A single-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on April 1, 2020 has resulted in a fatality.

At about 12:30 P.M., Burbank Police and Fire responded to the intersection of Olive Avenue and Sunset Canyon Drive regarding a serious traffic collision. When police officers arrived, they determined that a white Mercedes-Benz had collided head-on with a fixed pillar at the southeast corner of the intersection. The vehicle sustained major structural damage as a result of the collision. Efforts were made to extract and render aid to the driver, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle.

Witnesses near the scene reported seeing the Mercedes-Benz driving erratically and speeding before the collision occurred.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 20-year-old man from El Cajon, California. His name is not being released at this time.

Traffic investigators learned that the Mercedes-Benz had been reported stolen out of the San Diego area earlier in the morning by a relative of the driver.

At this time, it is unknown whether drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both were factors in this collision. Unsafe speed likely contributed.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to call the Burbank Police Department Traffic Bureau, at (818) 238-3100.
