Crime Statistics

In January 2022, the Burbank Police Department began using the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) to collect and report crime data. This change was required for all law enforcement agencies nationwide by the FBI to improve the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of crime reporting.

About the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS)

NIBRS provides detailed, precise information about crime – including when and where it happens, what type of crime it is, and information about victims and offenders. With this data, law enforcement can better understand crime patterns, allocate resources more effectively, and address problems more efficiently.

Benefits of NIBRS:

  • More specific and accurate offense reporting
  • More detailed information collected
  • Better context for understanding crime issues
  • Greater flexibility for analysis
