Don't Drive Distracted

Distracted driving is dangerous and continues to take lives. In 2024, about 3,275 people died in the U.S. because of distracted driving. In California, it's one of the top causes of deadly crashes, with nearly 4,000 fatal accidents linked to it.

In Burbank — and across California — it’s against the law to use a handheld cell phone while driving, unless it’s an emergency. Getting caught can be expensive. A first-time ticket could cost over $160 once court fees and other charges are added.

What Is Considered Distracted Driving?

Using a handheld cell phone
This includes texting, using social media, maps, or any app, even if the phone is on speaker.

Other visual, manual, or cognitive distractions
Actions like eating, drinking, grooming, smoking, adjusting the radio, or even talking to passengers can be considered distracted driving.
