Elder abuse is a serious and growing problem. As the baby boomer generation ages and life expectancy rises, cases of physical, emotional, and financial abuse against seniors are expected to increase unless action is taken.
Abuse can take many forms, including:
- Physical abuse – causing injury or harm
- Emotional abuse – threats, intimidation, or humiliation
- Financial abuse – theft, fraud, or exploitation of assets
- Neglect – failing to provide necessary care
Early detection of abuse, neglect, and fraud is critical. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, under the leadership of District Attorney George Gascón, has made safeguarding seniors and protecting them from harm a top priority.
