
In addition to a film permit, the Fire Film Safety Office determines if an operational permit is needed. The permits can be cancelled at any time.

- Combustible materials kept at a safe distance.
- Control possible ignition sources, e.g. water heaters.
- Fire extinguishers, class A (water) and multi-purpose (ABC) type immediately available for a fire emergency.
- A 30-minute fire watch after use of open flame.
- No smoking in building.
Complete the Request for Special Effects Permit.

- Pyrotechnic operators must have proper State Fire Marshal credentials.

- At least one 2A10BC extinguisher immediately available for a fire emergency. Additional fire protection equipment may be required.
- Proper pyrotechnics storage magazine kept in a safe, secure area.
- Only necessary production personnel in immediate area of pyrotechnic use.
- No smoking in building.
- Safety meeting with all people involved before using pyrotechnics.
- Complete the Request for Special Effects Permit.
- No flammable or combustible liquids or gases other than welding gases.
- Combustible materials kept away from ignition sources.
- Fire extinguishers, Class A (water) and multi-purpose (ABC) immediately available for a fire emergency.
- A 30-minute fire watch after completion of hot work.
- Compressed gas bottles properly secured.
- No smoking in building.
- Complete the Request for Hot Works Permit.
- Vehicles manually moved on and off set.
- Vehicles inspected for leaks.
- Vehicles hav less than a 1/4 tank of fuel.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- All exits clear.
- At least one 2A10BC fire extinguisher immediately available for a fire emergency.
- Vehicles not fueled on set.
- Complete the Request for Vehicles on Set Permit.
- Compliance with 2019 California Fire Code Chapter 31 required for tents over 400 square feet and canopies over 700 square feet.
- Tents and membrance structures roped, braced, and anchored to prevent collapsing.
- Material treated with fire retardant treatment and certified.
- "No Smoking" signs.
- No vehicles parked closer than 20 feet.
- Exits clearly marked with signs.
- Complete the Request for Tents and Other Membrane Structures Permit.
