A portable fire extinguisher can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives.
Use PASS
Pull
Hold the entinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and pull the locking pin.
Aim
Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
Squeeze
Press the level slowly and evenly.
Sweep
Move the nozzle from side-to-side.
Safety Tips
- Read the instructions and be familiar with a fire extinguisher.
- Have a fire extinguisher on-hand for small kithen fires.
- Keep in an area with easy access but away from children.
- If a room fills with smoke, leave immediately and call 9-1-1. Do not attempt to use a fire extinguisher.
- Have a home fire escape plan and working smoke alarms.
