Emergency Responder Radio Coverage Systems (ERRCS) provide reliable two-way radio communication for first responders inside of buildings where radio signals may be weak or blocked. ERRCS regulations are set by federal and state regulations and are important for public and first responder safety.
Requirements
The Burbank Fire Department will determine which structures are required to follow ERRCS regulations and complete the following:
- Issue permits for ERRCS installation and operation
- Complete plan checks
- Conduct inspections to verify compliance
Applicability
ERRCS regulations apply to newly proposed and/or constructed buildings meeting the criteria below:
- Levels
- 2 or more levels above grade plane
- Any basement or level that fully or partially extends below the grade plane
- Total Building Area
- 12,000 square feet or more
- Fire Code Official Determination
- As determined by the Burbank Fire Marshal based on fire and life safety risk
Exception: Wood frame single residential (R1) or two-family dwelling (R2) with no parking below grade.
