Derek Green

Captain Derek Green joined the Burbank Police Department in 2004. Derek was born and raised in Burbank and is a graduate of John Burroughs High School. He is of Argentinian descent and speaks fluent Spanish. 

In his over two decades of law enforcement experience, Derek has held a variety of assignments in field operations, investigations, and police administration.

In 2015, Captain Green was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served as the Department’s Public Information Officer before reaching the rank of lieutenant in 2021.

As a lieutenant, Derek served as a patrol Watch Commander and as the Bureau Commander of the Community Outreach and Personnel Services Bureau, overseeing community engagement, training, and recruitment. He also served as the Department’s Emergency Management Coordinator and was responsible for large-scale incident planning, crisis response and management, and the acquisition of equipment needed for emergency operations. 

In July of 2026, Derek was promoted to the rank of captain by Police Chief Rafael Quintero. 

Captain Green holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in business administration. He is an alumnus of Leadership Burbank, recipient of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Trilogy Award, and holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from the California Police Chiefs’ Association. 

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Derek is an avid cyclist and runner who enjoys traveling with his family in his spare time. 

Captain Green now serves as the Commanding Officer of the Field Operations Division, where he oversees patrol and jail operations.
