Captain Eddie Ruiz began his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles School Police Department in 1997. The following year, he joined the Burbank Police Department, where he was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2005, following assignments in the Special Enforcement and Vice Narcotics Details, he was promoted to sergeant. In this role, he supervised a variety of units, including the Gang Detail, Patrol Division, Support Services Division, and the Internal Affairs Bureau.
In 2010, Captain Ruiz was promoted to lieutenant, where he served in leadership roles within the Patrol Division, Community Outreach and Personnel Services Bureau (COPS), Professional Standards Bureau, Internal Affairs Bureau, and Investigation Division. In 2023, he was promoted to the rank of captain and currently serves as the Commanding Officer of the Investigation Division.
Captain Ruiz earned dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and International Relations, as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, from the University of Southern California. He is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute (Class 262), the POST Executive Development Course, and Leadership Burbank (Class of 2012). Additionally, he is an active member of the Burbank Domestic Violence Task Force.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Captain Ruiz enjoys reading and spending quality time with his family and friends.
