The Burbank Fire Department has several types of apparatus including Engines, Trucks, Rescue Ambulances, a Hazardous Materials vehicle, and a Battalion 1 vehicle.

Two civilian staff members run the Burbank Fire Department’s maintenance shop and are on call 24/7 for emergencies. Their responsibilities include:

  • overseeing maintenance, repair and service testing of all apparatus
  • managing all vehicle expenses such as fuel, tires, and repair parts
Apparatus
Engine 11 has a 500-gallon water tank and a pump that can flow up to 1,500 gallons of water per minute. It’s the main unit used for fighting fires, bringing both water and trained firefighters to the scene. Engine crews rescue people, protect nearby buildings, put out the fire, and check for any remaining hot spots. Engine 11 also carries emergency medical equipment.
Truck 11 is a tractor-drawn aerial ladder truck.  The truck is basically a giant toolbox allowing personnel to perform these specialized fireground operations:

  • Search and rescue
  • Vehicle extrication
  • Forcible entry
  • Placement of ladders
  • Putting elevated heavy streams into operation
  • Salvage
  • Overhaul
  • Securing of utilities
  • Ventilation
  • Assisting engine companies in checking for horizontal/vertical fire extension
RA13 is a regular cab chassis with an attached module for patient care.  It's staffed by two Firefighter/Paramedics who respond to 911 medical calls and other emergencies.  Paramedics use RA13’s equipment to triage, treat, and transport patients safely and efficiently.  An RA responds to medical emergencies with a fire engine or truck to provide the best possible service.
Battalion 1 has a rear command console allowing Burbank Fire Department Chief Officers the ability to provide enhanced efficiency and fire ground safety during any incident. The vehicle’s features include:

  • radios to allow seamless communication with all surrounding agencies
  • small flat screen television mounted on the rear command console to provide Incident Commanders with real-time video event footage. During an incident, this console becomes a command center for Chief Officers by providing them with the necessary information and equipment.
HazMat 12 is a HazMat Response Unit staffed with 4 HazMat Specialists. Its equipment meets the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Type 1 requirements. The HazMat 12 equipment includes:

  • air monitoring equipment
  • chemical protective clothing
  • radiation monitoring
  • intervention equipment
  • decontamination equipment
  • field testing and detecting equipment
  • plume modeling capabilities
