The Fire Suppression Division of the Burbank Fire Department (BFD) protects life, property, and the environment. Personnel respond to emergencies such as fires and hazardous materials incidents, working to keep the community safe. Each of BFD’s six engines is equipped to make initial attack, protect structures, and provide perimeter control on wildland fires.

Hazardous Materials Response Team
BFD operates a California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Type 1 Hazardous Materials Response Team, responding to incidents in Burbank and in other cities. BFD has a Hazardous Materials Response Vehicle at Station 12, which is staffed with four Specialist level personnel daily. The unit is cross-staffed by the four members assigned to Truck 12.

Technical Rescue
BFD is trained and equipped to provide these technical rescue services: vehicle extrication, rope rescue, shore-based swift water rescue, line of sight confined space, and minor building collapse. The demand for these services has been historically low, except for vehicle extrication.
