Library: Exploring Generational Trauma
This program is part of Burbank Public Library's One Book, One Coast series.
Drawing from themes in They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, this 60-minute presentation by Guatemalan-Mexican Trauma Therapist Adriana Alejandre, will examine how generational trauma, such as forced migration and economic hardships, shapes emotional and physiological responses across generations.
The presentation will begin with a brief relaxation technique, followed by Adriana teaching how to identify generational traumas, explore the impact of inherited stress on the body and how traumas affect our day-to-day activities. This presentation will integrate a collective activity called 'Common Sayings' to further explore generational patterns that have been passed down, and learn how to break unhelpful behaviors. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of generational trauma, along with practical tools and resources available to break generational cycles. A 10-minute Q&A will follow the presentation.
