Burbank Councilmember Appointed to Los Angeles County’s Sybil Brand Commission for Institutional Inspections
Burbank, CA (January 3, 2022) – On recommendation of Supervisor Kathryn Barger, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has appointed Burbank Councilmember Bob Frutos to serve as a member of the Sybil Brand Commission for Institutional Inspections through June 30, 2024.
The role of the Sybil Brand Commission for Institutional Inspections (SBC) is to ensure that conditions and treatment of adults and children under the supervision of County custody and care facilities reflect safe, humane, and best practices. The SBC conducts inspections of jails, lockups, probation, and correctional facilities throughout Los Angeles County. These inspections involve a complete evaluation of the condition of each facility’s effective and economical administration, cleanliness, discipline and comfort of its inmate and juveniles at probation camps.
“I am thrilled to have been selected to serve on the Sybil Brand Commission,” said Councilmember Frutos. “As a former Los Angeles Police Officer of 28 years, I am confident that my experience in law enforcement will be an asset to improving the conditions of LA County correctional facilities and ensuring safe and fair treatment of those in County custody. I want to give a big thank you to Supervisor Barger for asking me to serve in this capacity."
“I am pleased to appoint Councilmember Frutos to this important role,” stated Supervisor Barger. “The Commission performs a humanitarian role – to ensure there is unbiased oversight of our County’s correctional facilities and that a basic level of care is being offered to those who are serving their sentences. Councilmember Frutos’ extensive experience in both law enforcement and as a public policy maker uniquely equips him for this role. I look forward to hearing back the Commission’s findings and recommendations and welcome him to this new role.”
