Burbank PD News Release: Parolee at Large Arrested Following Assault on Officers
Burbank, CA (February 25, 2026) – A parolee at large has been arrested following an assault on police officers.
The incident occurred on February 17, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., when a Burbank Police officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop in the 400 block of East Santa Anita Avenue.
During the stop, the driver was instructed to exit the vehicle. He refused and instead reversed his vehicle, intentionally ramming two marked police vehicles and striking two officers. The suspect then fled the scene at high speed through residential streets, evading capture.
Although both officers were struck during the incident, neither sustained serious injuries.
Detectives immediately launched an investigation and positively identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jonathan Marquez of Los Angeles. Investigators determined Mr. Marquez is a registered sex offender and was a parolee at large who had removed his court-ordered electronic monitoring device prior to the incident.
Mr. Marquez’s criminal history includes prior convictions for violations of California Penal Code sections 273.5 (domestic violence), 311.11(a) (possession of child pornography), and 288(c)(1) (lewd acts with a child).
On February 20, 2026, members of the Burbank Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team served a search warrant at a residence in the 3000 block of Hunter Street in Los Angeles, where Mr. Marquez was believed to be staying. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Mr. Marquez was arrested and booked for multiple felony charges, including Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer.
On February 23, 2026, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed five felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon on officers.
On February 24, 2026, Mr. Marquez was arraigned and is currently being held in lieu of $260,000 bail.
