Burbank Police Department News Release: Active Death Investigation

Burbank, CA (April 18, 2023) – A death investigation is underway after a man was found deceased in a vehicle in the 1500 block of West Olive Avenue.

Today, at about 1:00 p.m., a Burbank Police officer conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver of a vehicle commit a violation of the California Vehicle Code.  As the officer was speaking with the driver, he saw ammunition on the floorboard and instructed the driver to exit the vehicle.  The driver refused and drove away.  Officers did not pursue the suspect.

Shortly thereafter, an alert citizen called the Burbank Police Department Communication Center and reported seeing the vehicle that fled from officers parked in the Chase Bank parking lot, located at 1551 West Olive Avenue.  Officers responded and found the driver deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. 

The decedent has only been identified as an adult male.  The Burbank Police Department is working with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to identify the decedent and notify the next of kin.
