Burbank Water and Power Launches Meter System Upgrade Project
Burbank, CA (May 22, 2025)— Burbank Water and Power (BWP) is one of the most reliable public utilities in the United States. In order to maintain this level of service, BWP is launching the Meter System Upgrade Project this spring. This necessary upgrade project includes two key components: replacing aging water meter communication modules and electric meters. This work is necessary to ensure continued reliability, meter accuracy and an enhanced customer experience, empowering customers with more insight into their water and electric usage.
Water Meter Communication Module Upgrades
Starting May 27, 2025, BWP will partner with Concord Utility Service to install new wireless communication modules in all water meters citywide. These enhancements will continue to allow BWP to receive near real-time water usage data. All work will be completed within the existing water meter boxes, and no interruption to water service is expected. The citywide rollout is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Electric Meter Replacements
In June 2025, BWP staff will begin exchanging all electric meters throughout Burbank. This upgrade will take place over 24 months and is designed to ensure continued accuracy in electric billing and long-term reliability of electric service.
Water and Electric meter upgrades will be completed by neighborhood zone. To check when upgrades are scheduled in your area, visit the project’s dedicated webpage: Burbankwaterandpower.com/meter-system-upgrade.
