City of Burbank to Host California Parafencing Championships as Part of Paralympic Initiative
Burbank, CA (May 21, 2026) – The City of Burbank, in partnership with Coach Geoffrey Russell and the Burbank Parafencing Center, will host the California Parafencing Championships in Foil, Epee, and Saber on May 23–24, 2026, at Robert E. Gross Park, 2800 E Empire Avenue, Burbank, CA 91504. Competition will run May 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and May 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Spectators are welcome.
The California Parafencing Championships represents a significant milestone in the advancement of adaptive sport infrastructure within the City of Burbank. Since its formal partnership launch in September 2024, the collaboration between Coach Geoff, Burbank’s Parafencing Program, and the City has rapidly scaled into the largest parafencing program in the United States, establishing Burbank as a national hub for athlete development in the sport.
The event will feature athletes competing across multiple weapon disciplines, including foil, epee, and saber, with representation from emerging and elite parafencing talent. Several participants will be making their first competitive appearances, underscoring the event’s dual role as both a championship platform and a development gateway into structured competition.
As part of the City’s broader adaptive sports and Paralympic alignment strategy leading into the 2028 Games, the championship further strengthens Burbank’s position as a regional leader in inclusive sport programming and athlete pipeline development. The initiative continues to expand access to structured drop-in adaptive programming while elevating competitive opportunities for Paralympic hopefuls.
