Burbank Parks and Recreation’s Powerchair Soccer program gives athletes the chance to compete in one of the fastest growing adaptive sports, blending strategy, speed, and skill on the court. As one of the few programs of its kind in the region, it provides athletes with confidence, teamwork, and competitive opportunities.

In addition to the video launch, the City will celebrate March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with an official proclamation presented at the March 24, 2026, City Council Meeting. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Burbank City Hall, 275 E. Olive Ave., Burbank, CA 91502.

“These initiatives highlight Burbank’s leadership in adaptive sports and our commitment to creating an inclusive community,” said Mayor Tamala Takahashi. “We are proud to share the talents of our athletes and celebrate every individual’s contribution to our community, all while welcoming global attention ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026.”

“Powerchair Soccer is about giving athletes a place to compete, build confidence, and be part of a team,” said Marisa Garcia, Parks and Recreation Director. “Our adaptive recreation programs are designed so that every participant has the opportunity to play, connect with others, and experience the joy of sports. We’re grateful for the support of the 26 Champions Grant as we continue expanding inclusive recreation opportunities in Burbank.”
