Deceased Missing Hiker Located

Burbank, California – An investigation is underway following the discovery of a deceased missing hiker near a Stough Park hiking trail.

On September 8, 2021, at about 10:00 P.M., Burbank Police responded to Stough Park after receiving a call of a missing hiker. Officers were able to isolate an approximate area of where the hiker was possibly located. The area was a steep valley between two ridges with rugged terrain. Officers immediately conducted an exhaustive search of the area on foot. The police helicopter also searched the area for several hours, but the hiker was not located. Due to the rugged terrain and darkness, the search was discontinued.

This morning, officers responded back to the area and continued their search for the hiker. The Department’s drone was also deployed. During their search with the drone, officers were able to locate the hiker. Officers hiked to the subject and determined she was deceased.

Emergency personnel are now in the recovery phase and are working to extract the decedent.

Burbank Police Detectives responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation. Investigators from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office are also responding to the scene.

The identity of the decedent will not be released, pending identification by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office and next of kin notification.

At this time, this incident appears to be accidental in nature. This death investigation is on-going.
