Earthquake Multi-Unit Retrofit Grant Program

The City of Burbank wants owners of eligible Soft-Story apartment buildings to know about a new California grant program that can help reduce the cost of required seismic retrofits.

The Earthquake Multi-Unit Retrofit Grant Program offers reimbursement for up to 70 percent of eligible engineering, permit, and retrofit construction costs, inclusive of up to $7,000 for engineering and permits and up to $4,260 per each residential unit for construction costs for qualifying 5 to 10-unit wood-frame apartment buildings.

Registration runs from August 19 through September 30, 2026, and funding is limited. Property owners must be approved by the program before retrofit construction begins to qualify for reimbursement.
