Extreme Heat Watch
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Eastern San Fernando Valley (including Burbank) beginning at 1PM on Wednesday, August 20 through Saturday, August 23. The City of Burbank would like to remind everyone to take the following precautions during high temperature days: avoid strenuous activity during peak mid-day heat, if you have to be outdoors during the day utilize as much shade as possible and wear a hat. If indoors, close shades or drapes to limit sunlight heating the interior and utilize air conditioning if possible; if you do not have access to air conditioning, visit the mall, movie theater, McCambridge Pool, or libraries to stay cool. Please note – the Verdugo Aquatic Facility is temporarily closed for annual maintenance from August 18-31.
- Wear loose, lightweight, breathable clothing.
- Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Use sunscreen, clothing, and brimmed hats to avoid sunburn.
- NEVER leave children or pets in the car – even for a short period of time!
- Ensure pets have access to shade and plenty of cool water to drink (remember - asphalt and pavement can be very hot on your pet’s feet and can cause injuries).
- Check on family members, older adults, and neighbors who may be vulnerable during the heat.
