LA County Resources Available During the Federal Government Shutdown

RE-POST FROM COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES: LA County is mobilizing to meet the needs of residents as the ongoing federal government shutdown affects communities. Here are resources and support available to residents:

Food Assistance

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

  • All California WIC agencies are currently operational. Government employees who are furloughed/working without pay may qualify for WIC, if they are pregnant or have a child under age 5, so we encourage them to apply and get WIC to help with grocery costs, even if it's only temporary.
  • Applying for WIC is simple and can be done 100% by phone. Apply at startwic.org or text "APPLY" to 91997.
  • To find a WIC location near you, as well as days and hours of operation, visit: phfewic.org/en/home/

Housing & Other Assistance

  • If you are worried that the shutdown may impact your housing, 2-1-1 can also direct you to tenant protection and foreclosure prevention services, or you can go to dcba.lacounty.gov to learn more.
  • For assistance in other areas, please visit 211la.org or call 2-1-1.
