Press Release: Burbank Water and Power Electrical Substation Fire Quickly Extinguished, No Power Loss to Residential Customers

BURBANK, CA (June 30, 2023) — Fire crews responded to the scene of a Burbank Water and Power (BWP) substation fire Friday afternoon, which impacted one business. No residential customers were impacted.

The Burbank Fire Department (BFD) was dispatched to the scene along the 4300 block of West Olive Avenue at 1:38 PM. Upon arrival, BFD crews determined an electrical transformer as the source of the fire and quickly extinguished the blaze.  There were no reported injuries or loss of property outside of the BWP operated substation facility.

According to Dawn Roth Lindell, General Manager of BWP, “our top priority in the event of an electrical fire is ensuring the safety of the community and our employees.  We appreciate the response of Burbank’s fine Fire Department, which resulted in a quick fire containment preventing further substation damage and spread to surrounding structures.”

BWP crews are at the scene repairing damaged equipment and working to restore power.  Repair work is expected to continue through the night and holiday weekend.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
