Press Release: New Public Artwork to Unveil at Verdugo Aquatic Facility

Burbank, CA (December 12, 2022) – The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to the unveiling of the recently completed public artwork, “The Answer is Yes – Mural and Interactive Sound Installation,” at the Verdugo Aquatic Facility (VAF), located at 3201 West Verdugo Avenue on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11:30 AM.

“The Answer is Yes – Mural and Interactive Sound Installation” was designed by the artist Dina Fisher and produced by 11:11 Projects. The artwork, which was designed and approved before Arrezo, Italy became Burbank’s fifth Sister City, illustrates four Burbank Sister Cities, Solna, Sweden; Ota, Japan; Incheon, Korea; Gaborone, Botswana, saying “Yes” in the four different sister cities’ languages. The mural’s content depicts the Burbank community as diverse and bringing global unity. It also serves as a vibrant backdrop to the Interactive Sound Installation, consisting of seven pipes and a spinning disc wrapped in vinyl. The seven pipes are contrabass chimes, chromatically tuned to create a complete octave of musical notes. Two small metal posts securely hold tethered rubber mallets to sound the chimes. This collaborative sound garden allows up to four people to play with the installation simultaneously. The sound is light and echoes the water theme.

As public art continues to be a major element in the City, this new artwork reflects the Burbank community's confidence, vitality, and optimism. Dina Fisher (Artist) and 11:11 A Creative Collection, Inc. (Consultant) were unanimously selected by a Site-Specific Selection Committee to commission a mural and an interactive sound installation at the VAF. The Site-Specific Selection Committee was comprised of a representative from the Arts in Public Places (APP) Committee, Burbank Cultural Arts Commission, one Park Board Member, and two Parks and Recreation Department staff. In March 2020, the project was unanimously approved by the Arts in Public Places Committee.

Dina Fisher, a creative professional with over 20 years of experience, has a rare multi-disciplined blend of graphic design, content creation, and art programming skills. Ms. Fisher is extremely conscientious and thoughtful when it comes to site specificity. Her various site-specific artwork includes Midnight Star at Burning Man in 2017, Mind Murmur at Burning Man in 2019, and Dig Deeper through Toolbox LA in 2019.

11:11 A Creative Collection, Inc., is a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization that provides integrated and accessible public art through community events, beautification, exhibition, and education. The Consultant acts as a liaison between private and government agencies and the local creative community. They consist of a team of arts administrators, curators, and marketing specialists that execute all aspects of an art program. Through their expertise, they have overseen various projects' successful implementation and management, including An Artist in Residence Program in Chatsworth and a street box mural program in the San Fernando Valley.
