Safety Reminders for High Temperature Days
As temperatures are expected to rise over the next week, the City of Burbank encourages residents to take the following precautions during periods of high heat. Try to avoid strenuous activity during peak midday heat; if you have to be outdoors, utilize shade whenever possible and wear a hat. When indoors, consider closing shades or drapes to reduce sunlight heating the interior and utilize air conditioning if available. If you do not have access to air conditioning, consider visiting the mall, movie theater, pool, or libraries to stay cool.
Additional safety reminders include:
- Wear loose, lightweight, breathable clothing.
- Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Use sunscreen, clothing, and brimmed hats to avoid sunburn.
- NEVER leave children or pets in the car – even for a short period of time.
- Ensure pets have access to shade and plenty of cool water to drink (Remember - asphalt and pavement can be very hot on your pet’s feet and can cause injuries).
- Check on family members, older adults, and neighbors who may be vulnerable during the heat.
