Southbound I-5 reduced to one or two lanes in Burbank for 55 hours on Jan. 8-11 (Friday to Monday) to shift traffic onto new pavement

WHAT:           Weekend closure of some Southbound I-5 lanes and on-ramps

WHEN:           Friday, Jan. 8 at 10 p.m. through Monday, Jan. 11 at 5 a.m.

WHERE:        Southbound I-5 from Empire Avenue to Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank

WHY:             This construction is part of the I-5 HOV Lanes project in L.A. County

The southbound direction of Interstate 5, the Golden State Freeway, will be open to traffic but with reduced lanes as follows (this schedule is subject to change):

Friday, Jan. 8, at 10 p.m. – Only two lanes open to traffic.

        11 p.m. – Only one lane open to traffic.

Saturday, Jan. 9, at 6 a.m. – One closed lane reopens, for a total of two lanes open.

Sunday, Jan. 10, at 10 p.m. – Only one lane open to traffic.

Monday, Jan. 11, at 5 a.m. – All lanes will be open to traffic.

  • The following ramps will be closed:
    • The Southbound I-5 Buena Vista Street on-ramp
    • The Southbound I-5 Empire Avenue on-ramp
    • These two ramps will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11. Times are subject to change.
    • Detours will guide local traffic to Alameda Ave. & Western Ave. on-ramps 
  • To avoid congestion and delays in the construction zone, freeway signs will advise Southbound I-5 traffic to consider alternative routes such as:
    • Southbound I-405 to Eastbound Route 101/134, or
    • Southbound Route 170 to Eastbound Route 134
