If an evacuation order is issued, do not wait – leave right away. You may have very limited time, and every second counts.
Your top priority is protecting yourself and your family. Life safety comes before property. Take these steps immediately:
- Gather family and pets. Place pets in carriers or on leashes so they’re ready to go.
- Grab important documents. Collect items like insurance policies, birth and marriage certificates, and essential keepsakes if you can do so quickly and safely.
- Use designated evacuation routes. Follow the routes provided unless conditions make them unsafe.
- Do not hesitate. Delaying puts you at risk and endangers first responders, who may be forced to rescue you instead of focusing on the emergency.
