Returning Home Safely

Even after the immediate danger has passed, an evacuated area may remain closed for some time. Public safety crews may need to finish cleanup, complete investigations, or allow utility and infrastructure crews to make repairs before it’s safe for residents to return.

In certain cases, limited entry may be granted. Residents with proper identification and proof of address may be allowed to briefly return to:

  • Gather additional personal items
  • Assess damage to their property
  • Accompany insurance adjusters or contractors providing repair estimates

If this happens, you will not be allowed to stay until the official evacuation order is lifted. Depending on conditions, you may need to be escorted by incident personnel while inside the affected area.
