Emergencies can happen when you’re at work, so it’s smart to be prepared. A workplace disaster kit is small enough to keep under your desk or in a cabinet, yet portable enough to grab and carry with you if you need to leave quickly. It should have enough supplies to sustain you for 3 to 5 days.
Store your kit in a duffle bag or backpack. At a minimum, it should include:
- A sweatshirt, light jacket, or hoodie for warmth
- Comfortable closed-toe walking shoes (in case you need to walk long distances after an emergency)
- A flashlight
- Basic pain relievers (Motrin, ibuprofen, etc.)
- A 3–5 day supply of any prescription medications you take
- A small first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic wipes, and other basics
- Three days’ worth of food and water (Coast Guard–approved rations are compact and last up to 5 years)
- Paper and pens or pencils for notes and communication
Don’t wait, start putting your workplace kit together today!
