The California Japanese Ceramic Arts Guild

September 4 - 24, 2026
The opening Reception is on Friday, September 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and will include music and light refreshments.

In 2026, the California Japanese Ceramic Arts Guild celebrates its fiftieth anniversary. Founded in 1976 by Joanne and Yukio Onaga, the Guild brings together artists from across Southern California who engage with the traditions of Japanese ceramics. Over the last half-century, the Guild’s members have curated an annual show as part of the Nisei Week Festival in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo.

In “Conveying in Clay,” we have the opportunity to see the distinct bodies of work of the ten ceramic artists who currently form the Guild. From functional pieces to sculptural scenes of the lives of the Japanese diaspora, the artists’ practice continues to connect tradition and contemporary artistry. Today, the Guild remains committed to sharing the spirit and beauty of ceramics with the broader community.
